Does WebP keep transparency?

Yes. Leave the background on Transparent and the WebP keeps it, like a PNG.

Why did I get a PNG?

Safari can't write WebP files from a web page (Chrome, Edge and Firefox can). Rather than put PNG bytes under a .webp name, the page gives you a PNG named .png and says so before you convert. In Safari, AVIF is an option that works.

Can every browser show WebP?

Yes, every current browser displays WebP, including Safari since version 14. Very old software and some email clients may not.

WebP or AVIF?

AVIF is usually smaller still, but slower to make and supported in fewer places. WebP is the safe choice for websites.

Are my SVGs uploaded?

No. Your browser draws the SVG and encodes the WebP on your device.
