How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
The crop tool lets you select areas visually. For exact pixel dimensions, use the Resize tool after cropping.
Does cropping reduce quality?
No resolution is lost: the selected region is cut out at the original pixel size. PNG stays lossless; a JPEG or WebP photo is saved again as JPEG/WebP at 95% quality, so the file stays photo-sized instead of turning into a much bigger PNG.
What aspect ratios are available?
Free (no constraint), 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:2, and 9:16. Pick one at any time — the box jumps to the largest centred area of that shape, and you can drag a new one or move it.
Notes from Milo 🐨
I tried cropping a photo on my phone and couldn't: the crop box only listened to a mouse, so a finger did nothing at all. Now it follows a finger as well as a mouse, and dragging inside the box moves it. Picking 1:1 or 16:9 used to change nothing until you drew a new box; now the box jumps straight to the biggest centred area of that shape, with the size in pixels underneath. A JPG comes back as a JPG named after your photo (beach-cropped.jpg) instead of a much bigger cropped.png, a tall portrait fits on screen instead of running 2,400 pixels down the page, the full picture no longer loses its last row, and a file that isn't a picture gets a message instead of silence.
