Can I use a custom color?

Is white the most common choice?
White is the most popular for e-commerce (Amazon requires it). But passport photos need specific colors (blue, white, or red depending on country).
Can I set a gradient or image as background?
Currently we support solid colors. For gradient or image backgrounds, use Remove Background to get a transparent PNG and composite it in your design tool.
Notes from Milo 🐨
The steps on this page say "upload, then pick a colour", and that's what I did: the AI cut out my photo, I clicked blue, and nothing happened. The colour only counted if you chose it BEFORE uploading, so trying white, then grey, then blue meant running the AI three times. Now the cut-out is kept and the background changes the moment you click a swatch or drag the colour picker, and the download is exactly what you see. A JPG photo now downloads as a JPG named after your file (shoe-ffffff-background.jpg) instead of a much bigger solid-background.png. And if you drop something that isn't a picture, it says so instead of quietly doing nothing.
